The course was place to place, starting at the cafe on top of Box Hill and going straight down the steep side to the stepping stones, across the Leatherhead-Dorking Road to finish on top of Ranmore Common near the church and not far from the finish of the course used for the club hill climb. The guy trailing me across the submerged stepping stones is Martin Turner, a useful roadman who had a pretty good sprint when it came to club run primes. The spectator/marshall to the right of the picture is Alf Whiteway who was to Clarence Wheelers what Gil Jessop was to KW. He also is, sadly, no longer with us.
