Every month, we introduce one of the Kingston Wheelers. May's candidate is new member Kenton Kirkwood
Name: Kenton Kirkwood
Age: 27
Significant Others: Wife Veronica.
What made you start cycling? I retired from a professional swimming career and had to find something to keep me active. Also enjoyed seeing a bit more of the countryside.
Why did you join Kingston Wheelers? I joined them on a club ride or two as they were close to where I lived and I liked the vibe.
Date you joined the Club: February 2004.
Who is your favourite pro or inspiration? Don't really have one.
What bike do you ride? Nothing special: Cannodale CAAD3 and Tiagra bits.
Give us a brief cycling background: Have not been doing it long. Last year I rode just for fun and I plan on trying out a few races this year. Have been quiet competitive against 1/2 Cat riders so I am keen to start a few races.
What was your best performance? Nothing much; beating some guys who thought themselves special on a few serious training rides.
What was your worst performance? Getting lapped at Hillingdom by guys more than double my age and it looked like a piece of cake for them.
What is your favourite race food? Same as swimming food, pasta with tuna.
Where is your favourite cycling location? French Pyrennes near Perpignan. You got the coast and the mountains. While the wife is happy to get a tan on the beach I can be out riding with mates. I also like riding close to Durban in South Africa(where I am from). The coastal roads are quiet and you get excellent views and good weather.
