|
|
My 2007 Giant SCR C3 is equipped mostly with Shimano 105 groupset, other than the brake calipers which are Shimano-compatible Giant 521, and the cassette & chain which I have replaced with Ultegra.
I have 2 questions regarding the brakes:-
I need new pads - will Shimano DA/Ultegra/105 pattern pads also fit my blocks?
Alternativey, is it worth me hunting down a pair of Ultegra 6600 calipers on the 'Bay? (or has anyone here got a pair going cheap...?)
Many thanks |

| Take out an old pad and take it to a shop to be sure. Probablt not worth upgrading if the brakes stop you ok. |

| Quite a few people recomend going for koolstop salmon brake pads which come in shimano or campag. effectively it means your bike will stop in the wet... |

Yes, Koolstop are the best value upgrade to bike performance you'll make. I user the salmon/black ones. Top. _________________ Hello, I hope you are enjoying whatever brand of cycling tickles your fancy. Cycling is very nice. |

Guess thats your review on wiggle Totally agree... Also everything dosnt seem to get as mucky I find. Colour not too offensive, but depends on rest of bike andif your looking close enough.. _________________ The hill always ends, so man-up and get on with it... |

Calipers make a huge difference too, but I'd vote for swiss-stops for carbon rims, green frogs (swiss or magura) for magura HS33 hydraulic rim brakes and for alu rims I like aztecs.
As for calipers Mavics with a beautiful leaf spring by far the best design and engineering.
As for which blocks work with which calipers there's a degree of trial and error. In theory there are three generations of campy block ancient / pre and post 2001. In reality you can usually get most blocks that come with their own shoes can be adapted to work with many brands of caliper... just look at the size and depth of the washers and nuts on the shoes to gauge it. |

Much useful info there, thanks all.
One further question re Kool stops - the dual compound is only available in Campag fitting on Wiggle; for Shimano it's either black OR salmon. Do you know if Koolstop do a Shimano-shaped dual compound? If so where can I get it; if not, which of the two are better for all-round use? |
