I had a go on Friday, yes. Key turned up very promptly, and I popped over to Vauxhall at lunch. Road up to Trafalgar Sq and back. Lots of people looking at the bike and a few chatted when stopped. Police bike came along side to chat and then checked my speed (20mph on a burst apparently). The gearing is a little too easy. I never really bothered going into 1st or 2nd.

Overall, it's fun though.

is there a speed limit which applies, or was this just out of friendly interest?

I understand that the speed is limited by the low gearing.

It does have an aerodynamic basket though.

So what are peoples bets for a lap of Richmond Park?

Could you break 30minutes?

Surely you'd have to make it from the nearest hire point, around the park, and back again in 30minutes, otherwise it's an expensive way to train!

Well after a bit of a fight with the online form I've now registered for the scheme, it really didn't like hyphenated surnames.
There was discussion of some options for competitions on the bikes, hyde park would be a good location as there's a rental station right next to the Serpentine.

What are they going to do when people puncture/mechanicals? Rolling Eyes And:

Quote:

Up to four hours
£15

Up to six hours
£35

Up to 24 hours (maximum)
£50

To hire for more than a couple of hours it might be cheaper for you to use a company that specialises in hiring for longer periods.

Late return charge
£150 if you have the cycle for more than 24 hours or the access period runs out

Lol...

Prices in Stockholm are £11 for three days, £17 for a 'season card', running April-October.

Prices in Paris are €1 for one day and €5 for a week.

I wonder why they have such a completely different price structure to other cities...

? cant answer that, but if you look at transport prices in general, for example the metro compared to the tube, then London is high anyway - so the bikes charges are just following suit.

But what tyres do they use?

wow, I cannot believe those prices. In order to work, these bikes should be a cheap alternative to a cab for when you want to get from A to B. For two people, you'd be better off in a cab.

I did think that I might make use of them next time I'm in London for fun rather than work, but at those prices I don't think I'll bother.

It's free for the first 30 minutes. So long as your journey is less than this, it's quite reasonable. Can you just stick the bike in a parking bay after 29 minutes and then pull out another and carry on?

I think you have to wait 5 minutes between dropping one bike off and picking another up, bit of a pain if there's a mechanical on the first bike.

I think any ride longer than 30 mins on a bike I'd rather be on one of my bikes but for short hops around town I can see this as being a great way to get around.
