Name: Laurie Griffiths

Age: 28

Any significant others? Fiancée Elisabeth.

Date you joined the Club: 6th May 2009 Officially (On-Off since July 2008)

Why did you join Kingston Wheelers? After much Googling and researching into the local clubs I found that the Wheelers seemed the most open, friendly and accessible club around and that's exactly what I experienced on my first ride out. I find the Sunday rides are great exercise, they help with my triathlon training and are most of all great fun.

What made you start cycling? For fitness reasons at the beginning but now because I have completely caught the bug and want to be more competitive.

What bike do you ride? Felt Z70 road bike / Custom Build Pace RC305 HT Mountain Bike.

Give us a brief cycling background: When I was a kid, there wasn't much to do back home in the Midlands, so little cycling adventures were our escape. Throughout my teens I had a paper round that covered 5 miles which kept me out of trouble and nifty on the wheels. Then when I hit Uni all my sporting ambitions were taken over by a drinking based social life and only early last year I decided I'd get myself healthy. I then found triathlon as a great focus that in-turn helped me re-find cycling - and I'm so glad I have. I try to fit as much cycling into my life now and I commute 22 miles to work on a cracking route that takes in Hampton Court and Bushy Park.

What was your best performance or ride?Coming seventh in my first Duathlon

What was your worst day on the bike? Falling off whilst cornering at high speed onto my knee which had Schlatter's (Swelling) at the time.

Who is your favourite pro or inspiration? Chris Boardman.

What is your favourite bike food? Cake.

Where is your favourite cycling location? The Surrey Hills.

Most likely to say: Something inquisitive but probably quite useless.

Least likely to say: Something interesting that you don't already know.
