UK Ironman
I completed the UK Ironman on Sunday at Sherborne, writes Ian Russell. I proudly wore the club colours on the ride and got a few shouts for Kingston Wheelers! Any advertising is good advertising – I rode slowly so that the supporters could read the writing. Conditions were windy and “West Country” but thankfully it stayed dry for the whole day. I hit the start line at 238 lbs or spot on 17 stone, adding support for the bulkier end of the club's demographic. Finishing time was 13:54:59 in position 849, full results are on ironmanuk.com
Kenmare 'Lost Sheep' Half Ironman
Cathy Clifford today completed the Kenmare 'Lost Sheep' Half Ironman in Ireland with a time of six hours and 24 minutes, writes Danny Clifford. The race comprises of a 1.9km open water swim in Kenmare Bay, 90km on the bike, which includes two major climbs on a circular route through Kerry and West Cork, followed by a half marathon through narrow, rolling Irish country lanes. The event is regarded as one of the tougher Half Ironman races.
Unfortunately fast times were not on the cards this year due to adverse weather conditions resulting in strong tides in the swim and slowing times on the bike leg considerably. However Cathy was still pleased with a time 23 minutes off her PB for the distance.
