Andrew Feather sets a new course record on Leith Hill
This year’s edition proved to be a classic, with a large field of 53 riders and some of the biggest names from the hill climb scene down to race.
The tailwind on the climb provided fast conditions and it was Andrew Feather (HuntBikeWheels.com) who took the spoils ahead of Harry Macfarlane (Rule 28 x ATP Performance) and Tim Strickland (Go Fast Turn Left), with an astonishing 3:19 ride that broke a long-standing course record set by Rowan Brackston back in 2016.
In the women’s race Cat Macintosh of Knights London set a formidable time of 4:32, backed up by Charlotte Dalton (Elevate RT) and Dani Forshaw (VC Venta) making up the podium.
Andrew Feather also dominated the Vet’s competition, with Ross Matheson (4T+Cyclopark) and David Ross (Elevate RT) making up the remaining podium places with a fast time from both.
The Women’s Vets podium was separated by just 12 seconds with Wendy Mathie (Penge Cycle Club) taking the win, followed by Alice Larkin (High Peak Cycles RT) and Tina Lohr (Horsham Cycling).
First junior was Matthew O’Donnell (Farnham RC) in 10th place with a time of 4:00.10 and youth rider Finlay Andrews (4T+Cyclopark) came in close behind in 13th with 4:10.30. Riders to watch in future!
In the race to crown fastest the Wheelers, Tom Kennett narrowly edged out Adam Cooke by 0.3 seconds to take his third title in a row. Whilst Alex Joss defended her crown to take the second title in a row and add to her Club Championship jersey.
