Holland and Morrice reign at the Sporting 14

The Gill Jessop Memorial Sporting 14 saw two new winners this year with Ross Holland (Saint Piran) and Alex Morrice (University of Bath) taking the overall men’s and women’s title.

Taking place two months later from its normal February slot due to poor weather conditions, the riders were treated to chilly but sunny conditions, which led to fast times on the day.

The junior riders were first up, with FInlay Hawker setting a blistering time of 33:03 on a road bike to win both fastest junior and the male road bike category.

The vets prizes were won by local legend Liam Maybank of Twickenham CC who clocked 31:04 and Kathryn Hughes of Onyx RT who did a great time of 36:10 on a road bike, winning her the road bike category as well.

Notable mention to Judah Rand of Kingston Wheelers who put in a huge ride of 30:51 to take the second place on the men’s podium.

Big thanks to Adam Bidwell and the team of volunteers for all the planning and smooth event, and the timekeepers, Christina Gustafson & Paul Tunnell.
